Fresh Mt Cook avalanche leaves person injured

An avalanche on Mt Cook today injured one person, after five were hit by an avalanche on the mountain last Tuesday.

New Zealand Avalanche advisory said there is currently considerable risk of an avalanche on the mountain in all areas above 1200 metres.

Police were unable to confirm whether anyone else was harmed by the avalanche today.

The injured person had been transported to a Search and Rescue base on the mountain and a rescue helicopter had been dispatched, said police.
