Gisborne: Mains water leak prompts urgent water conservation plea

Gisborne District Council has made an urgent plea for residents to conserve water after a leak in the water mains threaten the town's supply.

The leak has put immediate pressure on the city's reservoirs and the council says without putting restrictions in place it won't be able to meet current demand, the council said.

A total ban on all outdoor water is in place - which means no car washing, watering lawns or filling swimming pools.

The council said industrial water users must immediately put their water shortage contingency plans in place.

It said staff and contractors were onsite now and investigating.
